Sustainability

Responsibility.

How people are treated on our sites, in our business, and along the chain that supplies us.

In short

What this means in practice.

Environmental performance means very little alongside unsafe sites or unfair dealing. Responsibility covers the conditions people work in, how we do business, how we treat the environment around a site, who gets access to opportunity, and what we require of our suppliers.

01

Safety is the first commitment

Nobody should be injured building a project of ours. This takes precedence over programme and cost.

02

Fair dealing

Clear terms, honest reporting and payment of what is owed, on time, to the people who did the work.

03

Accountability

Commitments that cannot be checked are not commitments. Where we state a standard, we should be able to show how it is verified.

Common questions

Questions we are actually asked.

How do you verify these commitments?

Through records that can be inspected: inspection logs, incident reporting, payment terms and subcontractor requirements. A commitment that cannot be checked is not a commitment.

What takes priority when safety conflicts with programme?

Safety. If a schedule only works by cutting corners, the schedule is wrong and needs to be changed.

Ask how it is verified.

The answer separates a policy from a practice.
