What this means in practice.
This page sets out the framework rather than results. BuildKabul has not published verified sustainability figures, and inventing them would defeat the point of measuring anything. The metrics below are what we would expect to record and report on a project, with the method stated alongside each number.
Water
Consumption per occupant, and where relevant the proportion of site area left permeable — a meaningful measure in a city with declining groundwater.
Materials and waste
Principal material quantities, the proportion sourced locally, and construction waste generated and diverted from disposal.
Safety
Hours worked, recordable incidents and lost-time incidents. These are the figures a contractor should be able to produce on request for any project.
Method matters
Every figure should carry its boundary, period and whether it was measured or modelled. A number without those three things cannot be compared with anything.

Why publish a framework instead of results?
Because inventing results would make everything else on this site less trustworthy. The framework shows what we think should be measured and how it should be reported.
What makes a performance figure trustworthy?
Three things stated alongside it: the boundary of what was included, the period it covers, and whether it was measured or modelled. Without those it cannot be compared with anything.
Which metrics matter most to an owner?
Measured energy use per square metre once occupied, and safety figures during construction. Both are concrete and both are hard to present selectively.
Publish figures only when they can be evidenced.
